Jury Duty Postponed

E-mail Print PDF

I emailed my objections to jury duty to the Court, and Greg Wheeler from King County Superior Court Jury Services responded the very next day, which is far quicker service than I had expected.

Greg politely and professionally informed me that they would not grant my request for an exemption from jury duty, though in fact I never asked for an exemption, but rather noted various circumstances in which I would nullify the law.  He also informed me that the Court would be happy to postpone my service, although he could not reschedule me for the break between winter and spring quarters, presumably because those dates were already filled.

After speaking with Bellevue College staff to find out when the other quarter breaks are (why this isn't on the BCC website is beyond me), Greg rescheduled my jury duty for June 22, 2009 at 8:00 AM.

This is quite a relief, as it greatly reduces the risk that I will be forced out drop out of college to perform jury duty.  I also suspect that once I appear before the Court, I will be quickly dismissed during voir dire, or perhaps even upon swearing in, depending on what they are going to ask me to swear to.

My thanks to those who supported me.  We'll see what happens come June.

The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable--and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come. Patrick Henry
